How does a patient qualify for vision services?
A patient must qualify in three ways in to receive an eye exam:

Who schedules the patients for vision clinics? Is there a walk-in option?
You need to fill out the Lighthouse sight services application. The Lighthouse will process your application. There is no walk-in option.

How long does the application process take?
Two to six weeks after you submit your completed application you will receive an award letter via post mail or email indicating when and where your clinic will be. If you send all the necessary paperwork in one envelope, it significantly speeds up the application process.
What if I miss my appointment?
If you know you're going to miss your appointment, please contact the Lighthouse at least 48 hours in advance. If you do not attend a scheduled appointment, or do not cancel 48 hours ahead of time, there is a 4 month waiting period to receive a new appointment.
Are all these services free or is there a fee?
The eye exam itself is completely free; however, the glasses are a sliding scale fee based on the patient's financial status. Glasses range from $0 to $20.
How does the optical shop operate?
The optical shop is run by volunteers. They assist the patient in picking out a pair of frames, measure the pupillary distance, and determine the segment height for bifocals. Patients have about 20 options for frames in a variety of colors. The glasses are brand new frames and lenses. The Lighthouse does not pay for scratch coating, progressive lenses, tinting, or transition lenses. No upgrades on frames or lenses will be allowed. They are shipped directly to the patient in about 7-10 business days from the clinic and have a one year warranty.
How do I get my glasses adjusted once I receive them?
You can go to a local optical shop in your area to get them adjusted. The Lighthouse does not do adjustments.
If I break my glasses, can I get a replacement pair?
If it is within one year of receiving your glasses, you can pay $26 (money order or cash) to receive a new pair.
What if I have a vision impairment that cannot be corrected?
The Lighthouse's vision services are limited to eye exams, glasses, and surgeries. If your vision impairment is not correctable, we recommend you visit the Center for the Visually Impaired.
