Better Vision. Better Hearing. Better Georgia.

Luminary Society

The Luminary Society is a special group of donors who make a financial commitment of $1,000 or more to the Lighthouse. If $1,000 is too much to give at once, you can still be a Luminary Society member if you pledge the full amount and remain on track to fulfill the pledge in four years or less. As a Luminary Society member you will be recognized in our annual report, receive special updates, and be invited to our Luminary reception. You will also receive a distinctive Luminary pin and a limited edition print of one of Georgia’s lighthouses.

How do I become a Luminary Society Member?

We are asking all Lions to consider pledging $1,000 to the Lighthouse Foundation.  There are a variety of ways to give.  You have the option of paying your gift in several installments over 1-4 years or in one lump sum.

Once you have fulfilled your pledge you will be considered a Luminary Society member.

How will I be recognized?

We will say thank you with a special Luminary Society pin featuring the Sapelo Island Lighthouse and a plaque presented at the annual Georgia State Lions Club Convention.  For each year that you renew your Luminary Society membership we will enhance your pin with a precious stone.  You will also receive a framed picture with a different Lighthouse every year you renew your membership.

Your name will be included in our annual report in every fiscal year you give a gift.  You will also receive quarterly updates and invitations to Luminary receptions.

Will my Lions Club get credit for your gift?

Yes, we will include your gift in the overall gift totals for your club for end of the year contribution awards.

Can I designate my gift for a particular purpose?

Yes!  Any individual gift can be designated for any purpose, including White Cane.  Simply include a note with your gift or write in the check's memo how you would like the gift or write in the check's memo how you would like the gift to be designated.

When I give a gift not designated for a particular purpose, where does it go?

Any gift not designated for a particular purpose will go into our general operating account.  As seen in the above diagram, 70 percent of our operating funds go to vision services, 20 percent to hearing services, and 10 percent to administrative costs.

In addition to our low overhead, our volunteer doctors donate $4 in services for every $1 donated to the Lighthouse.  So a Georgian in financial need receives $5 in vision or hearing care for every $1 you give.

What if I have other questions?
